Be willing to suffer, not the sort of encouragement that causes people to rush on in to ministry! But it is so often the truth. At times being in ministry can be tough of a person, on a family. People both in and out of the church make loads of demands on the pastor, sometimes ones that are fair and understandable, some that are unreasonable and unrealistic. Pastors by their own choices can make situations difficult and cause problems for themselves too! The reality is that Paul instructs Timothy that life in ministry will be marked by difficulty, persecution and hard choices. Here are a few verses that point to this reality from 1 and 2 Timothy.

  1. Face dangerous times with a deep knowledge of the Word of God – 1 Tim. 3:1-17
  2. Suffer difficulty and persecution willingly while making the maximum effort for Christ – 1 Tim. 2:3-7
  3. Never be ashamed of Christ or anyone who serves Christ – 1 Tim. 1:8-11
