As a pastor with the Christian and Missionary Alliance much time is spent working through the distinctive logo and the meaning that comes with each symbol found with in that logo. A.B. Simpson our founder was a proponent of a four-part understanding of the work of Christ, which became the Four Fold Gospel.

The first part of the logo is Jesus as our Saviour (Savior for my non-Canadian friends!). This is based on the understanding that salvation is provided only through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and nothing or no one else. The reality is that Jesus died on a cross. The stains of sin on our lives mark each one of us as people. Romans 3:23 tells us that, “all have sinned.” That means ALL of us, no one is without the stains, the marks, the effects of sin in and on our lives. Romans 6:23 also tells us that; “the wages of sin is death.” Sin in our lives means that we will die, and we will be forever separated from God, and from everything that is good. This punishment, this penalty is due to sin.

The story of the Gospel becomes Good News as we understand that Jesus Christ lived a pure and sinless life, while at the same time willingly submitting to the plan of the Father which lead Jesus to the cross. It was God’s plan for Jesus to die on the cross, so that He might take the punishment for all the sins we have done. Jesus is able to do this because He was sinless, He was and is perfect. He died so that we could be forgiven and never again separated from God!

Now that is Good News!

Just like someone needs to be saved when they are drowning, we need to be saved from the effects of our sin. Jesus does that for us, saves us from drowning and dying in our sin. Jesus alone reconciles us to God the Father, only through Jesus are we able to be presented to God pure, all because the blood of Christ atones for our sin in the Father’s eyes.
