Signs of faith, they are all around us. We see them many times and do not even notice them. A while back a fad swept through the Christian world … WWJD bracelets and they could be seen everywhere. Ever since then I have been more aware of the symbols that surround us … particularly the ones that point to a Christian world view.

I know a young woman who has this tattoo. I asked her what it means and why she has it. I knew it was a Hebrew word … but that was where my guessing stopped.

She told me that this is the Hebrew word for perseverance (so she was told … and yes it is sideways in the picture!). In her past was a personal struggle that caused her to be in the hospital for a stretch of time. During that difficult time what sustained her was the truth found in James 1:2-4.

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of you faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

This truth is what she held too, that despite the hospital stay and the struggle before her, that God would produce in her perseverance to see the struggle through. She clung to that truth, God did deliver her, she tattooed this word to her ankle to remind herself that God heals, saves and sustains … even when it is painful and hard. Signs of faith are all around us … we just need to open our eyes to see them!
